Introducing the SkySQL™ Reference Architecture for Simplifying MySQL® Deployments
Widespread adoption of the MySQL® database, as well as popular forks such as the MariaDB® database, has given rise to an abundance of powerful tools for managing every aspect of database deployment. However, this deluge of tools has led to increased complexity and cost within the data center. The solution:
The SkySQL™ Reference Architecture
Customers interested in trying the SkySQL Reference Architecture, or Partners interested in having their technology evaluated to be included in the architecture, should email SkysQL at ref-arch@skysql.com.
The SkySQL™ Reference Architecture is a comprehensive framework for simplifying MySQL deployments. The architecture addresses some of the common challenges of deploying applications for high availability, Web scalability, data warehousing/business intelligence, and the cloud.
To deliver this reference architecture, SkySQL has joined forces with the industry’s most critical providers of data infrastructure technology, including Calpont, Canonical, Differential, Linbit, Monty Program, Scale DB, and Zimory. The architecture features the tools that database administrators need to ensure successful MySQL deployments, including:
- The MySQL or MariaDB database server
- OS infrastructure
- Monitoring and administration tools
- Integration tools
- Migration tools
Additional components will be added as users’ needs evolve.
SkySQL Provisioning v0.1
A key feature of the reference architecture is SkySQL™ Provisioning - a Web-based, simple, point and click graphical user interface that customers use to select, configure, and tune software components to create customized configurations according to their application needs.
In its initial release, SkySQL Provisioning v0.1 will feature components already available under the General Public License (GPL) and will not include support. SkySQL Provisioning v0.1 will allow users to customize four configurations:
- MySQL or MariaDB database server
- MySQL or MariaDB database server with replication
- MySQL or MariaDB database with high availability
- MySQL or MariaDB database with high availability and replication
With the the SkySQL Reference Architecture, users can rapidly deploy powerful tools around their MySQL databases, without adding complexity or cost to their data centers. Customers quickly benefit from:
- Accelerated decision-making – each component has been validated and tested by SkySQL to ensure enhanced interoperability and manageability
- Accelerated deployment - a graphical user interface simplifies the selection, configuration, and tuning of IT systems
- Peace-of-mind – enterprise-class problem resolution support delivered by SkySQL and its reference architecture partners make SkySQL-generated configurations safe for production environments
- Lower TCO – simplified deployment and software management reduces the cost of managing data infrastructure over time
